Beware of holiday online shopping email scams

Looking forward to Black Friday and Cyber Monday to grab some great deals?

While you’re getting some fabulous bargains, make sure that you don’t fall for one of these email scams.

In recent weeks in the lead up to the big online shopping frenzy, scammers have been circulating fake emails with malicious content that are pretending to be postal delivery services as well as online retail giants such as Amazon.com.

Both the Australian Government’s Stay Safe Online and the UK’s Action Fraud programs are warning their residents that the scammers are  taking advantage of the busy shopping season with emails about ‘missing parcel deliveries’. Another phishing scam email circulating is one from Amazon where they claim that there is a problem processing your order and that you need to click a link to confirm your account. This scam actually is designed to gain access to your financial and personal information.

The emails look rather legitimate and may be even personalised complete with their company logo, as well as your name and address. It states that a fee will be charged for holding the undelivered item.

Don’t be caught out! This is the Amazon email that you need to look out for.
